The Ryan Gallagher Memorial Bowl-a-thon began in the Spring of 1993 and continues to be an annual event on CATRA’s calendar.
The yearly event is produced by CATRA volunteer Elaine Karl. Elaine has been a part of CATRA since its very beginning in 1985. Outside of CATRA, she worked as a special education teacher. As a volunteer, she frequently worked Ryan assisting in the preparation of his horse and aiding Ryan during his lesson.
“Although unable to walk or speak, Ryan managed to deeply touch many people throughout his life.“
Beginning in the mid-’90’s, circumstances prohibited Elaine from participating fully as a volunteer at the facility. Because of her fond connection with Ryan, she initiated the Memorial Bowl-a-thon. Through her work and the support of Bowl-a-thon participants, Ryan’s memory continues to live on at CATRA.
The Ryan Gallagher Memorial Bowl-a-thon takes place at the ABC Bowling Lanes North, 5303 Locust Lane, Harrisburg, PA 17109.
The Memorial Bowl-a-thon takes place in mid-April and is open to all levels of bowlers.
